when frens or someone else's frens or strangers got to know that i work in a library, below are the question they would normally ask:-

ko kerja kt library tu, ko buat kerja pe sbnrnye ye?

kerja kt library ok x?

nk kena ada qualification apa ye utk kerja kt library?

tp, i really rs cm xbrp berkenan bila dpt soalan di bwh:-

eh, kerja ko bkn ke sng je... susun2 buku je, kn?

mari sini i explain sebhgian dr kerja2 yg i buat as a librarian. utk pengetahuan, susun2 buku bkn kerja actual. susun2 buku or we call it SHELVING adalah kerja Library Assistants (**see?!!! kami ada ASSISTANTS utk susun buku kt shelves, muahahaha). but that does not mean that we do not monitor kerja assistants ini ye. jdnye, wujud la apa yg dinamakan sebagai SHELF READ. bila assistants dh susun buku from trolleys to the shelves, so librarians need to do shelf read to ensure that books are placed at the correct section. PURPOSE? supaya users sng nk cari buku & sng nk buat assignments, project papers, etc2.

beli buku juga adalah kerja yg i pernah buat. remark yg i pernah dpt smpi buat telinga rs cm berdesing  dgr remark ni, "oh, apa susah nk beli buku? beli je la kt kedai, pilih2, then bayar." kwn2, itu bkn cara bekerja in a library setting ye. you need to have better judgement on what you should and should not buy. afterall, it's not your OWN library, kn? so, we have to consider the subject area before we can purchase. ko kna blajar subject area, wey!!!

talking about subject areas and learning about it, most public and private universities have not less that five faculties. faculty engineering, medic, IT, business and accounting and law rs2nye ada kt mana2 uni pn, unless if it's a verrrrrry specialized university (sprti tmpt yg i kerja ni).  library at these universities need to build their collection based on the courses offered. so, that's y we have what we call as liaison librarian. liaison librarian adalah tugas i skrg ni. apa kerja liaison librarian? they r the intermediaries between the library and the faculties. jdnye, liaison ni la kna phm subject area for faculty yg diorg handle tu. each faculty is represented by one or more liaison librarians. if ada 5 faculty, at least kena ada 5 liaison librarians. tp, kadang2 library pn x cukup staff, 1 librarian jg 5 faculties skali!!! hebat x?!!! (jwb la HEBATTTTT, please!!!) ko bayangkan la... dulu ko blajar Psychology, tiba2 ko jd liaison librarian yg kna jg 5 faculties (yg basic) yg i sebut td... engineering, medic, IT, business and accounting, and law. mmg leh psiko la liaison tu, muahahaha...

lg 1 yg berkait dgn subject areas, ko igt cmne kitrg library assistants tau nk susun buku mana kt rak mana? of course la nk kna ada stndrd kaedah cmne ng bg address kt buku tu. (hah... itu la pkataan plg senang nk bg org phm... ADDRESS buku). kwn2, sila jgn igt nk bg ADDRESS buku tu senang ye. i spent two semesters when i did my masters to study nk bg call number and subject ok!!! itu blom lg kwn2 yg bljr library dr diploma, degree, masters... sure cm lh masuk rekod arkib la if kumpul2 knowledge diorg yg lg byk tu.

okeh, library skrg dh canggih... ada library system. mana2 library yg xpki commercial library system opt for open source py application. basic applications/functions yg ada dlm system are to manage bibliographic records, budget, purchasing, users' records, circulation transactions, subscribed resources, etc2. ko igt senang?!!!! cm nk terputus urat kpale gk la nk solve problem system ni. lg2 bila part statistics. dan urat kpale akn juga terbakar dan terputus bila network buat problem. 

yg i btau kt atas ni SEBAHAGIAN je kerja kt library ye... i've done all that i've mentioned above in my 3 years plus working experience. oh... i lom citer lg part i manage subscribed resources. juga if buku ada kerosakan dan cacat cela. juga utk kerja2 binding. dan juga utk daily/routine task handling the users. juga kerja2 PENCARIAN dan PENGGALIAN knowledge/resources utk lecturer. juga mengajat users cmne nk guna database. and the list goes on and on and on....

jd, utk kwn2 yg 1 man show jaga library tmpt diorg kerja, i mmg tabik spring la. anda mmg hebat dan cool. and to frens who are working at other libraries (public, universities, special) and getting the support from your colleague and assistants, anda juga hebat dan cool. kesimpulannye, kerja jd librarian cool... that's the answer if anyone come to me and ask the 2nd question above..."kerja kt library ok x?" tp it's not cool when you come and ask/tell me "eh, kerja ko bkn susah sgt pun... susun2 buku je, kn?"

• i LISTENED when my cousin merungut bahawasanye at the moment houseman di Ortopedik adalah sgt relax... sgt relax smpi agak sangap dh xtau nk buat apa. b4 ni kt O&G len, nk beranak xlh nk tunggu2. now kt Ortopedik, lh bersantai2 cz bkn all d time ada aktiviti yg x menyempat nk tunggu len kali. nasihat i? sila beramah tamah dgn patients (& famili members mereka), tp cdgn i ditolak.
• i LISTENED bila sorg budk kecik ckp kt i that she's gonna stay at rumah "NENEK MERTUA". i don't even know where in the world did she pick up that word. NENEK MERTUA, okeh?!!! xleh tahan!!!
• i LISTENED when my friend(s) told me that they are going to Korea for holidays. auoooccchhhh!!! mahu ikut!!! pergi dgn muslim package adalah menarik & i would love to go too. tp, kita tunggu ye... tunggu ada rezeki lbh sket utk g sana 1 hari nnt. insyaallah.
• i LISTENED when ayahnde instructed me to settle hutang PTPTN i secepat mungkin. iye... iye... i tgh gigih la ni.

in English je we have LISTENING and HEARING, 2 maksud berbeza wpun guna deria yg sama. tp dlm bahasa malaysia, MENDENGAR is mendengar... mbe utk lbh precise leh ckp MENDENGAR DGN TELITI. dan nenek i yg awesome pnah bg nasihat:-

"jgn ukur dgn telinga. ukur dgn mata"

sgt dalam mksd tu, hahahaha. bila kita DGR pe org lain citer about someone, kita tend to make a judgment automatically, whether it's good or bad judgment. kalo si tukang pencerita pandai, maka sedap la dibubuh garam, gula, penyedap rasa segala supaya citer dia sedap. so, kita yg dgr ni pn cm senaaaaang sgt being influenced. if yg diDGR tu citer elok, xpe gk. if x, hmmm... takut jd fitnah. pnah dgr kn FITNAH tu amenda? hahaha...

TP, if kita TGK someone & we make our own judgment, itu adalah penilaian yg lbh tepat kot. mslhnye, bila kita TGK someone py muka cm agk garang/bengis/kurg manis, kita ckp org tu garang la, tak reti nk ramah tamah la, suka marah budak2 la, etc2... lerrr... pdhalnye org tu mbe adalah sgt sweet-berhati mulia-peramah-pndi berkawan-etc2. jgn lupa, de gk org cm agak happy go lucky, muka manis, peramah, etc2... pendek kata, mmg pandai la mingle around dgn org. tp tgk2, backstabber. %*#@!!!

it all comes down to ATTITUDE la, rasanye...

back to LISTENING and HEARING... i rs, no matter how good you are at LISTENING to what others told you, the most important thing is to know when to LISTEN TO YOURSELF. that's called LISTEN to your INSTINCT... krn instinct itu adalah sprti gk petunjuk dr Allah yg kita tak sedar. LISTEN to your INSTINCT cz it might show you something.

all things nostalgic

npk gaya sprti blog sudah di"abandon" oleh tuannye :( x sempat2 nk updet cz idup agk kelam kabut before April (eh, bkn ke i mmg sll kelam kabut?)... sprti mana kelam kabutnye keadaan ats meja kt ofis (bkn ke ats meja i mmg sll cmtu? bkn ke ofismet ptt lbh concern if meja i terlbh kemas? hahaha... funny!!!). okeh, i apologize cz lps staff br masuk, things need to be handed over to them (npk x... THEM ye, bkn him/her).

wiken br ni adalah wiken yg TERisi dgn menda2 nostalgic. dimulakn dgn watched an old movie on TV. yeah...yeah... i sukaaaaaaaa "Sound of Music"... filem yg very classical, ada nyanyi2 tuh... DO RE MI FA SO LA TI DO... "edelweisss, edelweisss, every morning u greet me", etc2. citer tu kuar kt TV dh tgh mlm, so xde la nk tkr2 channel tgk citer lain. tp cz start kul12.30 smpi kul3.30, mata i ni larat bertahan smpi kul2.30 je, huhuhu. rugi!!! itu mmg one classical movie worth watching on Saturday night =)

moment nostalgic diteruskn di hari ahad. hari ahad rutin membasuh baju. smbl bsh baju kpale i ni TIBA2 terpkir lagu "Bangau oh bangau" (x de ke moment lain nk pkir lagu "Bangau oh bangau? knp dlm TOILET gk la br nk terpkir?) de something yg merunsingkan i masa nyanyi tu...
